World Travel – Mexico (Baja California Sur) 2001

Our fifth and final stop along the Mexican Rivera is at Cabo San Lucas before we head in LA and call this adventure a great success. What we enjoyed about this stop is going out on a small boat to “Land’s End” and the wildlife out there. Pulling into port at LA, well it wasn’t a tourist stop…

World Travel – Mexico (Sinaloa) 2001

Our forth stop along the Mexican Rivera is at Mazatlan. We also traveled inland to the towns of Concordia and Copala which was a very special place since we got to spend time with the locals.

World Travel – Mexico (Guerrero) 2001 – Part II

Our 2nd stop along the Mexican Rivera is at Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo. We didn’t see anything of interest in town to see/do but did catch a tour out to Petatlan to see a church named Father Jesus of Petatlan. It is said that this is one of the most revered shrines in Mexico

World Travel – Mexico (Guerrero) 2001 – Part I

We leave Costa Rica and head north up the coast making port in Acapulco, Mexico. This would be the final port for most of the passengers; but, not for us. We are taking advantage of what is called a repositioning cruise as cruise ship companies get there ships out of the Caribbean and head for Alaska. We will stay on board and enjoy the Mexican Rivera and ext in Los Angles. So, our first port of the second half of our cruise is Acapulco…

HMCS Kootenay (DDE 258)

Let’s talk about this ship a bit more since this is part of “ReefGate” and was big news here from 1999 to 2001. This Canadian Naval ship (and Restigouche – DDE 257) was towed from Canada to here to become an artificial reef on Navy Day, June 1, 2000. Well, there was a question on how they were purchased and here they sat until it was cleared up in 2001. Shortly after I took this photo the Kootenay was sunk near the Restigouche that was sunk just before our arrival.

2000: Delaware and Hudson (PA’s Return)

RRAdventures Website: Delaware and Hudson (PA’s Return)

Back on March 28, 2000 2 of the 4 D&H PA’s that went down to Mexico came back to be restored. I got really lucky and found them just as they crossed the MX/US border and were sitting in the BNSF Mobest Yard and the Yard Master let me in to take photographs of them.

World Travel – Mexico (Baja California) 1994

I had traveled earlier into Baja California, Mexico as a youth crossing into Tijuana sometime I believe in the late 1960’s. In 1994 I won a 3-Day cruise on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and we took the Viking Serenade to Ensenada which one of our main sights was the La Bufadora (Blowhole). After this trip we were hooked on cruise travel and ready to see the rest of the world as well.
