2013 – Summer Vacation – Part 8A

Curecanti National Recreation Area

As we approach the end of this trip we will head into Curecanti for some views along with a little historic Railfanning.  Our first stop is at Pioneer Point to catch a different view of the D&RGW Logo Peak know as Curecanti Needle.

There also some great views of the river and side waterways that run deep in this canyon

Our next stop is at Hermits Rest where you can get great views of the Rugged San Juans as well as take a hike into the canyon for those in better shape and have more time then we have…

We will head towards Cimarron, CO as we heard the D&RGW Train Display might be up again and even though it isn’t, we catch the Steam Engine / Tender #278, Boxcar #3132, and Caboose #0577 in a back lot.  If you look at my older posts of the Display before it was recently restored these historic railroad equipment was in bad shape.

World Travel – Alaska 2012 – Cruise Day #2

Port of Call:  Ketchikan Alaska

We have now arrived in Ketchikan, AK and we have chosen to take a small boat ride into the Misty Fjord National Monument.  This is a wonderful wilderness area that is over 2 million acres in size and we will head up the Behm Canal to New Eddystone Rock.  Lots of beautiful scenery / geology and wildlife all along the route.  Here is just a small handful of photographs that my wife took while I was shooting video.

We will also see the Guard Island Lighthouse

Here is a shot of the Star Princess I will catch as we head back toward dock in Ketchikan.  Our cabin is just above the fourth life bout from the right

Once back in town, I will catch a few photos myself.  Here is just a few of those shots including some of the Totem Polls and Creek Street that was once the “Red Light” district.  Yes, I did get a few train shots in too.

1999: Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

RRAdventures Website: Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

As we continued on our vacation we passed through this Civil War historic town and found this tussle running through town; built to help avoid being washed when the river gets a bit to high.
