We sail next to the Greek island of Crete. Our chosen destination here is the Minoan Palace of Knossos Heraklion. This was once a great structure built around 2000 BC and destroyed about 300 years later.

We return to the Greek Dodecanese Islands, this time we make port in Rhodes itself, at the ancient city . The medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been is a World Heritage Site and a fantastic place to explore. One of the places I explored in detail was the Palace of the Grand Master. I wish we could have had more time here as the entire city is a living museum.
Now on our small cruise ship, cross the Aegean Sea and enter the channel passing Çanakkale, Turkey until we reach the Sea of Marmara before docking in Istanbul, Turkey; on the Europe side. We spend time visiting the major sites such as Hagia Sophia, the Blue Masque, and Topkapi Palace. We did cross over the bride to the Asian side by bus but I will count that via another blog entry later…
In April 2006 we use again traveled into Mexico. Our tour began in Phoenix, AZ and we traveled to Tucson to visit San Xavier Mission Church. After crossing the border at Nogalles we stopped in Hermosillo where we enjoyed the beauty of the Catedral di Hermosillo and the Government Palace. By night fall we reached San Carlos and watched the sunset over the Sea of Cortez.
The mainland of Venezia is a wonderful place to explore. The famous Bridge of Sighs is a bridge to the prison which the condemn saw their last sight of the city. In the main square (as in Saint Mark’s) is the Doges’ Palace, the Basilica, and the tower. We also spent a lovely canal gondola serenade ride with our two new friends from New Jersey.
We next toured London itself; some by a guided tour and some by ourselves. If you have never been to London taking a “City Tour” is a great way to get a lay of the land then don’t be afraid to then set out on your own to see sites in detail. Lot’s and lot’s of great buildings line the streets. Here and there are Statues / Monuments that might surprise you when you read the plaques on who they are!
